Our Background

La Doña Jaichima

is from the Sierra Madre mountains of Jalisco, Mexico. She is a Wixarika Mara'akame, or medicine person. Her training in ancient indigenous Mexican practices began in the womb. She is a respected Mara'akame elder. She speaks fluent Spanish and English, her native Huichol, and other languages.

She was guided by her father Haka'ula in many forms and physical healing. Ulu'temay, her godfather, taught her the art of the placement of objects for healing. Doña Jaichima and her brother Don Rutury work together. They are bearers and protectors of their own very efficient traditions.

Don Rutury is Doña Jaichima's brother. As a Mara'akame, or Medicine Person, he is also a protector of the ancient ways. He also is fluent in English, Spanish, his native Huichol, and other languages. His training as a Mara'akame, like Jaichima's, began in the womb. He was taught by Maiwemeh, Haka'ula, Hauweli and now Jaichima. From the small village of San Sebastian Teponahuastlan Mezquitic, Rutury has gone through many hard lessons that will last an entire lifetime in his medicine path. He is a committed protector of the Huichol culture. Since joining his sister Jaichima in the US, both of them have been working in their traditional ways.
